1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using StoryCodex ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

StoryCodex is an Android-based novel reader that provides high-fidelity AI voice synthesis (TTS) and an AI-powered story companion. The App allows users to import content from web URLs or local files and uses local and cloud-based AI models to analyze and summarize story content.

3. Monetization and Purchases

StoryCodex offers both free and paid features:

  • Free Tier: Ad-supported access to core features including local AI analysis and neural TTS.
  • Remove Ads: A one-time purchase to permanently disable advertisements within the App.
  • StoryCodex Pro: A one-time lifetime purchase that includes ad removal, access to cloud AI models, and the interactive relationship map.

All purchases are processed through the Google Play Store and are subject to Google's terms and refund policies.

4. AI Features and API Keys

StoryCodex provides access to various AI models:

  • Local Models: On-device processing using GGUF and LiteRT models.
  • Cloud Models: Pro users may use remote models (e.g., Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini). Use of cloud models requires users to provide their own API keys.

Users are responsible for any costs incurred through the use of their own API keys with third-party AI providers. API keys are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to StoryCodex servers.

5. User Content

The App extracts content from web URLs and local files provided by the user. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to access, read, and listen to the content you import into the App. StoryCodex does not host or provide the story content itself.

6. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your data. Most processing occurs locally on your device to ensure maximum privacy.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be error-free or that the AI-generated summaries and analysis will always be accurate.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StoryCodex shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use or inability to use the App.

9. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
